WELCOME TO THE CAMPBELL BEARS CHEER FAMILY

The Campbell Pop Warner Bears’ Cheerleading program’s goals are to teach new cheerleaders the basic fundamentals of cheerleading/dance and to help build and expand upon the skills of more experienced cheerleaders. We provide a safe and fun learning environment in which our cheerleaders will also learn the meaning of teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship and hard work.

There are no tryouts to become a Bears cheerleader. All girls/boys who sign up are assigned to a team depending upon their age and skill level. However, we do recommend that any returning or potential Bears cheerleader take some sort of tumbling class in the off-season to brush-up on their tumbling skills. Feel free to email us and we can suggest a tumbling class for your child if you are interested. A Cheerleaders team placement is the final decision of the Cheer Athletic Director, Assistant Cheer Athletic Director and CPW Board.

All of the Campbell Pop Warner Bears’ Cheerleading coaches have had background checks and have been either a cheerleader or has experience in coaching. Our Cheer Athletic Director and Assistant Cheer Athletic Director have 9 plus years combined experience in coaching and as Athletic Directors/Advisors.  We also have student demonstrators to help assist our coaching staff.  Student demonstrators are supervised by head coaches and provide assistance to the teams they are assigned to and also teach the cheerleaders dances and cheers. Student demonstrators must be in good academic standing with their school in order to be apart of the Bear’s coaching staff.

PRACTICE SCHEDULE AND TIME COMMITMENT

Our cheer season officially begins on August 1, 2011, by national rule. Occasionally, the national board of directors may approve a start date that is a few days earlier, depending on the calendar. We practice five days a week from August 1st thru Labor Day. After Labor Day the practice schedule decreases to 3 days week.  Most of our practices are held on weekday evenings, with some Saturday practices, dates and times are subject to change as needed to accommodate use of practice facilities or game schedules.  The girls may also have a weekend of cheer camp. There are no additional fees for camp but the total number of registered cheerleaders will be the deciding factor on whether or not our cheerleaders attend. Parents of Campbell Pop Warner Bears participants are required to do a minimum of 10 pre-approved volunteer hours per child for the league during the season (depending on the size of he cheer teams you may be asked to do additional hours).

CHEER/ SPIRIT COMPETITIONS

There are four competitions during the regular Pop Warner Football/Cheer season (The Spirit Jamboree, Invitational Competition and the Peninsula Pop Warner Spirit Championship).  The Spirit Jamboree is the first opportunity of the season for each squad to show off their cheer skills. The Invitational Competition gives each squad their first experience performing in a competition. The Invitational Competition does not determine advancement for any future competitions. The Peninsula Pop Warner Spirit Championship is a qualifier for the Pop Warner Regional Spirit Championship. Only the first and second teams advance to the Regional competition. If a squad makes it to the Regional Spirit Championship, it could require over night accommodations be made, which will be at the expense of the participants. Top scoring squads at the Regional Competition advance to National Championships, which are held in Orlando, Florida in the beginning of December. Travel packages may be available for the National Competition (travel fees and accommodations are not included in the seasons registrations fees). Fundraising may be made available, if time permits and is approved by the Campbell Bears Board.
